We greatly hope that parents will take an interest in their children’s education and support the school in its daily work and its public activities. Close co-operation between the school and the home is essential if we are to ensure that the child reaches his full potential.

We hope that parents will give us full information about the child and about any changes in circumstances. The school will ensure that parents are informed in good time about important happenings in the school calendar. Of course parents are welcome to activities such as our Thanksgiving Service, Christmas Concert, Christmas Fair, as well as the meetings of the friends of the school.

The Reception Class teacher will interview the parents of 4 year-old pupils to discuss the findings of the Baseline Assessment given to pupils during the first weeks in school. Discussions between her and parents will lead to the formation of a picture of the pupil to be placed in his Educational Profile. Records are added to the Profile, on every aspect of the pupil’s development, throughout his career in school. Parents can arrange with the Headteacher to inspect and discuss the contents of the Educational Profile.

Parents’ meetings are held three times during the school year. In February parents are invited to see and to discuss the first half of the year’s work. Annual Reports are sent to every home in June as well as an invitation to parents to school to discuss its contents and to review the year’s work and progress.

Apart from these formal meetings parents are welcome to make arrangements to discuss the progress and welfare of their children at any time. Indeed, it is emphasised that the school’s door is open to parents every day of the year.

Home school agreements/contracts are a way of strengthening the close contact that exists between the school and the home. Parents are asked to sign the agreement when pupils are admitted to school.

It is the school’s policy to set homework regularly.

From time to time we ask pupils to complete tasks at home. This can entail finishing work, completing a particular task, finding information, asking questions of parents or other members of the family,  or learning work, e.g. multiplication tables, words for a spelling test.

We would like to emphasise your role as parents in this and we hope that you will assist, supervise and ensure that tasks are completed to the best of every individual’s ability.

Remember also that reading regularly is a very important part of homework. We hope that you make good use of the Reading Record booklet and put down your observations as an additional reference point for the teachers.

Parents are welcome to discuss homework with the class teacher if difficulties of any kind arise.

Here are some website with advice on how to keep your child safe online.

A number of parents come to help in school by listening to pupils reading, helping with craftwork, sports training and helping to supervise pupils on educational visits.

We greatly hope that some of you will be able to assist us again this year. Don’t worry if you cannot give of your time regularly, (e.g. weekly) you may come occasionally if that is easier. The teachers greatly appreciate having an additional pair of hands  from time to time, so if you can help put your name forward - we are certain to make use of you!

Remember also, if you know of a neighbour or member of the family, who are not parents in the school but who would be interested in helping, send their names also - we would be very glad to welcome them.
